I used to play an online game called Clandestine, starting when I was something like 11 years old. I was a huge fan of Role Playing Games, Dungeons and Dragons, and, inevitably, fantasy books. By the time I was in fifth grade, I was writing about mages and elves, and all with these horribly cliche plot lines and stock cardboard characters.
I met Miss Julie in 6th grade, during the middle school writing group, and she instated two rules: no killing the character just because it's easy, and no swearing. I think that was for our parents' sakes.
Three years later, I moved up to middle school and writing for the school paper. They didn't have a creative writing group anymore, but I made friends who write (one of which is still part of my writing group).
Currently, I'm a member of the Mat-Su Valley Writers Alliance. That's a group of local writers, all of which I adore. And then there is Mwahaha, a semi-secret online writing group whose members (and even name) are unofficial , dun-dun-dun, but I talk about despite the secrecy. Mostly because I love everyone in it, and talking about them cheers me up all the time. Actually, that's true of both writing groups.
Really, my circle of writing friends keeps growing, and I'm glad that I've gotten to meet so many of you. It's wonderful to be able to talk about writing, and stories, and the different ways people go about it. It's great that everyone works hard and does their best, and more importantly has fun. I've been kind of been really lucky.
